The name of the game in a golf tourmament is volunteers and donations. First you want to find a course (we use private so we are the only ones there). Get as much as you can for your money - you will have to pay for this! You can usually charge your golfers the money to pay for this. Our course includes a luncheon. Everything else is donated. I mean everything! That's what makes it so much work. You need to get lots of sponsors. We have Tee sponsors for $50, cart sponsors for $100 and Shirt sponsors for $250. I guess I forgot tomentiont aht every golfer gets a golf shirt. We pay for those too, but get a dscount rate. your sponsors are very important, and you need ot get as many as you can. This is your money! We have a local dealership who will donate a car for a hole in one. They know it never happens but its free advertising. we get raffle and door prizes from local businesses. Most are willing to donate, just fo rhte asking. We keep alist and make sure we hit them up again the following year, too. We get donated muffins and coffee for hte morning. A liquor store donates a few kegs. A 50/50 on the day of the tournament. Get every dollar you can! This can be very successful. But you have to be organized.
We are having our 5th Golf Tournament this year. Public versus private courses depend on what kind of private you have the ability to get. If you can get into an exclusive golf course that normally most people would not have the oppurtunity to play on then you can handle the fees they will charge you and still make money. We have normally tried to make about 25.00 on each golfer after fees, and meals and have made most of our money on tee, and green sponsors at 100.00 tournament sponsors at 1500.00 which comes with ad in book, ad that day, and foursome.
We try to sell out the course and charge somewhere around 100-125. We have found that if it is a public course you can not charge more then 100.00
In organizing a golf tournament, what is typically the "magic number" of participants needed to make it a success? I've been checking in to this as well and most of what I get is someone shaking their head laughing because of the hastle of putting it all together. Is it better to use a private course, public course, public-private? What are the type of hole sponsors you use? What do you charge to enter the tournament (greens fees + cart rental + x?) Our spring fundraiser needs to bring about 6k and I'm wanting to do something beyond the tradtional fundraiser, but also want it to be a success.

Golf tournaments can be a huge fundraiser. Last year we raised $6,000 with our tournament. You are correct, in that it is a LOT of work. We usually form a committee about 3 or 4 months before hand. If you are still interested, I can give you a lot of info on how we have handled ours. This spring will be our 3rd, so we are still learning, but so far, we have been pretty successful.
We are considering the option of having a Golf OUting as a fundraiser. We can see by just the research that is involved that this endeavor will be alot of work. Has anyone done this for a school fundraiser? If so what was your profit? How many participants? And where did your profit come from (participants, silent auction, food/beverages)?
