Greetings,
Maybe too late for this year, but we have sent letters to local businesses in the past. We promote the fact that they may use gift cards as prizes during their holiday parties. We promote that they can purcahse all their gift cards in one place and support a non-profit organization at the same time. Each year, another new business learns of this convenience and in addition to the Holiday Season, we've actually received a few regular supporteres of our program as well.
Perhaps it won't affect you, but be aware that the IRS considers gift cards/gift certificates given to employees the same as cash. As such they have to be reported as income and taxes paid.
So a lot of employers are shying away from that. If they give an item - like a ham or pen or some thing, there's no tax consequence.
Maybe a better (or another) market for you is individuals. What about approaching large groups such as local churches or community organizations and asking them to support the school by sharing your information with its members.
Hi, I would like to ask local businesses to purchase holiday gift cards for their employees through our Scrip program. Does anyone have a sample letter for this? If so, please e-mail it to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Thanks and happy holidays!
