Interesting feedback...here's a little update...after speaking with me at length, my friend understood my concern. I wasn't the only one, the plan backfired on the director of the facility because a number of parents received resistance. However, it came to a good end. They're donating the money to a local charity and promised and end to fundraising Alls well that ends well!
I heard one of our day cares did a fundraiser. I am guessing it is by Schwanns, I was told the truck came ever so often for people to buy things off of it and so much went to the day care, the lady that told me about it said her sister's kids in Indiana participated in this program at their school and it was a big fundraiser for them.
I know 2 nursery schools in town that fundraise, but they are non profit (run by churches). They hold small scale fundraisers (like a breakfast with Santa) and the money pays for play equipment and the like.
I think that a for profit busineess doing fundraising may make a lot of folks not happy. But the way I look at it, it is up to the parents who send their kids there. Personally, I think I would remove my child from a for profit school that did that. Bottom line is they are afraid to lose business if they up their rates. What happens if the fundraiser does not garner what they want...Do they up the rates anyway?
Well, I'm "new" here but I've been a "lurker" for several months. A friend of mine has a daughter in a local day care and the other day she stopped by with a catalog soliciting a purchase as part of a fundraiser for the center. Now this is a for profit business and I wasn't too interested. She claimed it help them buy the best "educational" items for the children without raising her fees. So I guess this is sort of a "work off" program. Anyone else seen this? Fundraising is now starting at the tender age of 18 months
