We also get out of school in the third week of June. That's okay because it is still cold in NY. For our Kindergarten picnic, we have a peanut hunt. Several bags of peanuts with the shells on are spread around a huge field. The children have paper bags and when the whistle blows, they try to get as many as they can. There really isn't a prize for winning. The teacher just tells all the kids how wonderfully they all did. Maybe you can have the kids color pictures to be hung at the veteran's hospital or supermarket as on of your stations. We did this for our breakfast with santa and it was very well received. It is nice to encourage community service beginning at such a young age.
We had a several stations manned by parent volunteers. There were field day type events, sack races, bean bag toss, hoola hoops, relay races, indoor activities included bingo, cookie decorating and eating, puzzles, and a reading station, the kids just shifted stations after so many minutes. A little bit of everything that day. good luck!
kyptamom,
Thanks for the ideas. I especially like the book, and maybe the polaroids too. I know it's different in different areas of the country, but we always get out of school at the end of june and go back after labor day.
enjoy your vacation!
What about a "book" of like 4 pieces of white paper stapled together, titled my Favorite things about kindergarten...you could supply stickers, stencils, crayons, etc...not too messy. They could illustrate and decorate them to their hearts desire...
Or you could have some "field day" type events...tricycle races, ballon tosses, etc
Fu dress ups is also fun...we got a bunch of parents clothing, hallowen costumes, etc, and a polaroid camera. The kids got a chance to dress up with their friends and get pictures to bring home that very day.
Why do you get out of school so late? We got out last Thursday. Of course we had only one snow day, thankfully.
I'm trying to organize a fun day for the kindergarten class at my daughters school. There are approx. 115 children. So far we are planning to have a magician, ices and drinks, and free time to play. I was hoping to have a hands-on activity for them also but some ideas (sand art, cupcake decorating) have been rejected as too messy, as has cotton candy. Money is not the issue, and any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I don't have much time, since the date been set for the third week of June, right before school ends. Thanks for the help.
