Our school has 2 Holiday Concerts the same week as our Holiday Shop. We will be open during these times and are planning on setting up an area with a winter scene to have families or kids take pictures. I wanted Santa to come, but our school district said no. Our school is strict on classroom time so students will visit during their recess if they have money to buy things, otherwise they go to recess. We are open for 1 hour after school so parents can stop in and help little ones shop for other family members. I am thinking about having an ornament craft making area so kids can make ornaments too.
This is my 3rd year running our shop and I am always looking for ways to improve. We have whole classes coming at one time, obviously some children don't shop, so last year we started a card making station using donated card fronts, stickers, stamps, shape scissors and we buy blank cards when they are on sale at Michaels. It was a great way to keep the non shoppers busy and they enjoyed making cards. This year I will add word search and other types of puzzles along with coloring sheets.
This year I will also incorporate a walk through day the Friday prior to the week of the shop. Whole classes will come through the shop after leaving lunch and will be able to see what we have prior to their shopping day.
Lastly I read a tip here about merchandising items by who they are for,ex. Mom,Dad, teacher,Grandma, sister, etc. I think this will help with the "What is there for teachers or what is there for Dads" question. Thanks.
