A "tricky tray" is usually a type of drawing where you buy general tickets and then apply them to the specific prize you hope to win.
For instance, you might have a jar for each item and participants put their tickets in the jar of choice.
It has different names: Tricky Tray, Chinese Auction, or simply "drawing". Note - some believe the first two to be demeaning and don't use those so as not to offend.
Some people use two-part tickets (one in the jar, one to keep), some use a master ticket with tear off stubs, some use the type where you print your name. We always created our won, just printing them in Word and cut them into slips 10 per page that ask for Name and Phone Number.
On this type of drawing/raffle, the popularity influences how much you make. An item might be only worth $50, but if you have 100 people willing to spend $1 on a chance to get it, you might make $100. Plus everyone who puts in a ticket has a chance to win.
