LCC--What are the specific objections? I seem to remember reading somewhere (probably on here...) that one school was afraid that having these supplies come in their fancy boxes would highlight a "haves" vs. the "have-nots" problem. There were a couple of suggestions to get around that which were offered at the time--I think that one was to pull them out of the boxes and put them in a plastic grocery bag, and make the parents pick them up at a special time; another one had something to do with the parent group buying a certain number of kits for provide for kids who couldn't afford them, stuff like that.
Our school (K-8) has been using SchoolKidz for
several years and have been very happy with the
results. Prices are reasonable compared to running around looking for hard to find items.
Some schools sell them at cost or add a flat fee
as a fundraiser. We add $2.00 per kit.
As for the teachers, tell them that the kids will
have the exact supplies needed on Day 1, no competing over who has the "coolest" supplies,
they're paid for in April/May which takes a little off of all of the August expenses.
They will send you samples, too.
I would like to start this program too, but the school planning team (made of teachers, admin, parents)are against it. I loved it at another school, but am getting nowhere here. Anyone have good ideas for getting this off the ground?
