Our Middle school just finished a PE Equip. Drive. We got the word out to Parents and set a Saturday drop off date. Our P.E. Teachers/Coaches participated in the pick-up day. Parents dropped off used golf equipment, balls, aerobic items and many other things our PE dept. was in need of. We also made arrangements for pickup of heavy donations like weights or exercise bikes. Good luck.... Getting the word out is key!
I love this idea. I have so many baseball mitts and cleats and lacrosse gloves in my garage and I would love to find them a new home. Even doing a sports swap, where the kids themselves can bring the items in, get equipment that fits them and donate the leftovers to the school or donate to another needy school.
Not exactly the same thing, but we're going to do a "gently used sports ball" drive with our upcoming Donuts with Dad. Last year we asked for gently used books and this year we thought the Dads would get into the spirit of sports balls. We'll divvy them up between the classrooms and the gym teacher, any extras will be donated to a local urban school. Not a fundraiser, but a related idea.
