Our school holds a walk a thon every year. We send forms home with all the students to solicit donations. People donate an amount say $5.00 not an amount per whatever distance. Ours is not a typical walk a thon because the kids do not really walk continously on a track or anything. We go on a parade in the streets surrounding the school and that is our walk portion. The walk is probably 30 minutes. I don't know if this would work for you but with our 460 students we raised over $17,000 last year.
I forwarded this posting to pwalther (she's a regular poster here)--she gave me awesome info that really helped us with our first walk-a-thon (we're doing it in April).
I'm assuming you're in Jersey/Philly if you're talking about the company--good decision. When we crunched the numbers we were shocked at how much money we'd be handing over and decided to do it ourselves.
Our School wants to do a walk. I do not even know where to begin. We have a name: Walk Around the World but that is about as far as it goes!
If anyone has anything they can email me check list, sample how to's OR a website or book that will give me direction. I do not want to hire a "company" to run the walk - we want to do it ourselves.
Thanks in advance!
