It is usually items that are a minimal cost to them and it helps them feel that they are really supporting the school - we recognize the donations in the newsletter and in our email group. They also receive a tax-deductible receipt. Another money saver is asking parents to send in bags of mini candy for consolation prizes at each game - we rarely have to buy anymore candy after the donations and we have 40+ midway games!! We of course still solicit the business commnity (approx 200+ businesses) and we use a form letter merged with a database so that each letter is personally addressed - I think this has made a huge difference for us...we receive some great raffle items. We then have a parent volunteer (or a few) do follow-up calling after the letters have been sent out...this is where you really do well...I have all of the following forms in my computer for anyone interested... 1. Carnival Volunteer Sign Up Sheet
2. Donation Request Form Letter
3. Thank you Tax Receipt Letter
4. Raffle Ticket Design
Anything else I mentioned? Just email me with what you would like - if possible give me a fax # as these forms will more likely come through better over a fax but I can also send in Word Format This email address is being protected from spambots. Would love to have copies of your letters as examples for our Fall Festival and Silent Auction

We also use theme baskets for our silent auction and each grade level has a theme so the parents have a guideline as to what to buy. We use themes like Barbie, Sports, Boating, Bath/Body, etc. Works well for us!
We do a chinese auction every year. We assign "themes" to each grade level and ask parents to send in items according to their childs theme, eg."baby days", "tool time", "cozy nights", "picnic", "bake".....I let the parents know that dollar store items are fine and give them a few ideas for each theme. We wind up having beautiful theme baskets for which we sell chances ($2.00 each or 3@ $5.00). This has been very successful! Good Luck!
