I have thought a lot about this and I'm persuing it further. The teacher whose idea it was has agreed to do most of the coordinating if we end up doing it.
Any other opinions?
If you don't expect too much from me, you might not be let down. <img src=images/smilies/smile.gif>
As long as it is an adult event and you do not hold it on school premisis you should be fine. We had a special occasion last year and held it at a local hall and the teachers came and had a great time.
At one of our last meetings, one of our teachers suggested we hold a teacher/staff dance at the end of the year to raise start up funds for next year.
She got the idea because there was a huge retirement party for our principal last year and people shelled out a lot of money and had a lot of fun but noone benefitted except for the country club.
Our principal immediately brought up the issue of alcohol and liability. I share her concern, but if we contract a hall that is licensed and offers a cash bar, don't they assume liability?
Do any of you think this would be inappropriate? Have you done anything like this before?
We are 501c3, so we can protect the school from liability, but who will protect our org? I have not looked into this with AIM.
Thanks!

PS -- I also love that this is an idea that came completely from a member and not an officer and it came out of a meeting, which is huge for us.
