CAKE AUCTION --THEY SAID NO WAY

Years ago, our Cub Scout units did it at the year end banquet. The key to making a truck load of money is to invite service organizations, like the Elks Club, Moose Lodge, Optimists, American Legion, VFW, etc. Make it a community affair and you should do well. Make sure you spend time, effort and (like it or not) cash on advertising.

Good Luck!

Have any of you done a cake auction to raise money? If so, how did it go and how much did you raise? I want to throw as much back-up as I can get here.

CAKE AUCTION --THEY SAID NO WAY was created by tiner68
OK here's the deal. The school in the next town did a cake auction with all cakes donated and raised about $3,000.00 which for very small towns like ours is pretty incredible. We went to the principal of our school with the idea and folks willing to donate cakes but she shot the idea all to ^&#%&^! She said that it was ridiculous for people/polititians to bid up to $160 for a cake. I say hey if their that crazy we could sure use the money but she absolutly will not go for it. So I can up with this idea and wanted some input before I pitched it. I am trying really hard not to kill anyone this year over Fall Festival. I came up with doing a silent auction/tricky tray type deal with the cakes on a table with a box(one for each cake) on it and sheets to fill out to place a bid. That way the cakes could be bid on but the price would not get outragous cause noone would know what the other one bid. They would fill out the little slips with the name, number and bid amount. They place the paper in the box and we close the bidding about 1/2 to 1 hour before the carnival is over and check the bids to see who was highest and they get the cake. I thought it was a good idea because all the cakes will be donated and anything we get will be profit. If you see any loopholes in the idea please feel free to tell me so when I pitch this I can have all the bugs worked out.
