I haven't seen the thread you're talking about, but I may know of something along those lines that could help.

You could see if a game store would like to host a gaming tournament or game convention to support your school.

The other option is that many game manufacturers have people who will run games and provide prizes if you provide the location and advertising. I know someone who does this for Hero Clicks which is the new revolution in games. Card games are soooo 90's. ;)

The way to make money on this - charge an entrance fee and sell concessions. Lots of snacks and drinks. Adverise this at game shops and in your neighborhood.

You could even host your own with games like Risk and Chutes and Ladders. Or even an amatuer chess tournament.

Games and comics seem to go hand in hand, so maybe you could combine both.

Does anyone remember the article or story or something about a school having a show with local comics donating their time to perform for a fundraiser?
I've been trying to see if it was in the archives but can't remember all the details.

The school has a new 500+ seated auditorium and wants to bring in attractions to raise cash (of course they need revenue to pay for a $5m loan! ) I mentioned a movie night and felt warmer receptions in -30 degree winters! ;) Not sure if this would go over either but I really don't need equipment the school doesn't have so that is a plus!

Any ideas????
