Last year was the first year we used escrip. We pushed Vons hard since it was so easy to use and we made 4% of every purchase. We noticed our checks were getting smaller, we thought our families stopped shopping! Escrip dropped the percentage the schools get down to 1.5%! This was a big dissappointment!
We're going to continue with Escrip and schoolcash.com and implement paper scrip this year.
We had no problem with our scrip vendor until the end of this last school year. We experienced a lot of backorder problems in the last few months. After many phone calls we have been assured this is a temporary problem and should be fixed by now. We will give them this chance as we had never had any problems before this.
We have been selling scrip for several years and have been very pleased with the monies we have raised. HOWEVER, we are now experiencing problems with the company we are using -- backorders, decreasing profits, discontinued merchants. Anyone else experiencing problems with this?? How about that Escrip? It seems like the participant merchants are more limited than the paper scrip merchants.
RE: bounced checks.... we have had very few people in the past 3 years who have bounced checks and they've always paid. In fact, this year we had 2 and it was the same person. They're banned from paying with a check.
We do keep some popular items in the office at all times (grocery, movies, restaurants). Or, another school I know of has Fridays as scrip day where sell them before and after school.
We're in our 3rd year of scrip. If Michelle or anyone has any tips on how to get more participation, I'm all ears. I'm a strong supporter of scrip. It's the best, easiest way for the profits to add up. We keep telling people to get orders from family members, co-workers, etc. Instead of delivering wrapping paper, hoagies, candy, etc. all you do it hand your customers a little envelop full of gift certificates. So convenient and it is everything that you use every day!! Even with this, we have the same 10-15 people that order it. (Even with that small number we profited $700 last December and usually average $300-$400 in the other months.) I've talked with some schools that say this is their only fundraiser because they make so much money.
I've researched all the companies, if you're interested in who we use, the form we've created, etc. just email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
