~Burger King - only donates on a national level & too many requests
~KFC - too many requests
~Kohl's - only donate through special program & not for this type of event
~Best Buy - supports United Way & Red Cross
~McDonalds - only national or international, see local manager
in our little corner of GA I have never had any problem getting these business to donate food, coupons or time to our school. burger king especially.. I had to contact the head office for the owners of the local chain but within minutes he was willing to donate 200 kids meals to the school for a Christmas Holiday social just this past December. Currently Best Buy is donating 2 $100 gift cards to be auctioned off at our Spring Fling in April
I received two things from Oriental Trading for our auction this year, so they may be a company who picks rather randomly who to send donations to. Don't give up on them completely.
I have sent out over 100 donation letters and the responses so far are all pretty negative. Here are some that said no!
AirTran Airlines
Darden Restaurants
Mrs. Field's Cookies
Oriental Trading Co
Office DePot
Owens Corning
Omaha Steaks
Tootsie Roll
John D & Catherine T MacArthur Foundation
I hope this isn't a sign of things to come!!!
Hope this helps!!
Good for you ldhunter! We're in Henderson, NV and I've tried for 3 years to score Disneyland passes with no luck. We've received more nos from corporate companies than in the past. They're just getting hit up too hard from too many organizations. You know as we do, we're lucky in the way that we have all of these big hotels, restaurants and entertainers so we do get some great donations from them. Then in the same sense, we're in the 5th largest school dist. in the US so there's a lot of schools hitting them up. I recently attended a charity concert/auction for a rare childhood disease and noticed they had a donation from Frontier Airlines, so I contacted them also. Ours didn't get approved. We've received a donation from AirTran the last 2 years and were denied this year. I even used the Sponsorwise.com web site to solicit JetBlue and Frontier Airlines (now you have to use this for AirTran also) and we were denied by all 3 airlines. So, it's kind of hit & miss lately!! I wouldn't even mind if more large corporations adopted the same policy as American Girl where you can only get a donation every 4 years so others have a chance as well.
