Hop a thon(or something like it)

My problem with the very big walk-a-thons and things like it is that they become really just ways to get donations -- and the donors don't get anything in return.

I know that they're happy to give, but why not just ask them for a donation.

The smaller thons are different because then the goal isn't money its encouraging the activity (like a read-a-thon).

Just my humble opinion. Thanks.

Any details you can give me would be much appreciated! you can e-mail directly at 'This email address is being protected from spambots. Thanks again!!

In the past, we have done a jog-a-thon and raised over $10,000 in an elementary school with about 550 children. We have not done it for a couple years becuase it is a lot of work, getting prizes from businesses, etc. but was are considering a spellathon this later year.We are located in So. California.

We've done a read-a-thon and it was great. But I wouldn't count on it as a huge fundraiser. I think we made $700 or something.

We think of it as a nice event and we provide refreshments and prizes, and the money that comes in is just nice to have.

If I were to judge it just as a fundraiser -- it would not be good. Too much work for too little $. But we don't look at it that way.

I have a question for you all.....

Has anyone ever done a hop a thon or walk a thon as a fundraiser?? Did it raise alot of money?? Was it worthwhile??

Thanks for your replies!
