I would love to hear more about your Math programs! Please send me any info! Math at McD's in May sounds wonderful! Ours has an indoor play area and would be wonderful for March. Please send me any info!
As part of our parent liaison program that helps enhance the home-school connection, we have coordinated many Family Math Nights at the schools. They have had different themes for each grade level varying from Kitchen Math & Science Night, Family Nutrition Nights that using many math activities at the various stations at the tables. We have even done Math at McDonalds on Mondays in May in our community.
There is alot of fun with academics that can be tied into math that helps support parent involvement.
We have held Math Night for the past two years at our school, and we too do it around the 100th day of school.
Each classroom is set up with different level math games or projects. ie. one Kindergarten does a number identification bingo game, one first grade did a game with calculators, second grade did a game with concentration using addition, third grade did a game using a deck of cards and a numbers grid 1-100. etc.
Those are only one idea for each grade. There were two or three classes from each grade running so that a great number of students could be accomodated.
The PTO does not run this event, the teachers do, but I don't see why the PTO couldn't do it.
I can give more information if you need it, but I would have to check with the teacher who ran it this year.
Good luck and I can tell you it went very well and was very well received by everyone. I would say we had a 60% participation rate.
