I thought the treasurer was getting things together for our tax exempt status. She thought I was. Needless to say, we have went no where and I have no idea where to start. I went to irs.gov but it was very confusing to me.
You can use your school or district's tax ID number if you don't have your own. That's what we did this year and it's worked out fine. I found that the large majority of local businesses in our area didn't care about the tax ID #. They just wanted something on school letterhead to prove we were who we said we were collecting for what we said we were.
I was just reading someone's post about donation letters. We are filing for a tax ID number but I guess it is a long process. Is this something that is needed to request donations from companies?
