Our PTO receives the money from both fall and spring pictures, yearbook, and printer cartriges. We made over $3,000 in profits from the fall pictures already. The yearbook is not a substantial fundraiser at all. In fact, the last couple of years we have lost money. But, this year we are asking students to pr-eoder the yearbook. This is our first year with recycling the ink jet cartridges, so we really have NO IDEA what the income might be from that! But, we do get to keep it all! Our school district is very strict about fundraising. We cannnot do catalog sales or any door to door selling. Which basiclly only allows us one fundraiser a year. We have a Supper with Santa. So, we really do need the profits from the other things I mentioned.
Our school gets the money from the photos, but really, it all ends up benefitting the kids, so we don't worry about it. As far as the loyalty/reward programs, our printer cartridge money goes to PTO but our Target and LandsEnd money goes to the school. It just depends on who is set up as the recipient (and I think those vendors only wanted to set up schools, not "clubs"). This year, the PTO is taking over the development of the yearbook (in conjunction with our school photographer) for the first time, but the checks and profit will still go directly to the school. A unique situation - but the principal has come to rely on the yearbook profits each year. He just needed volunteers to do the work, and PTO was pleased to step in.
At EVERY school that I have been involved with (private elementary in PA, public elementary and middle schools in PA, 2 public elementaries in IL, public elementary and middle in TX) the school has received revenue from school pictures, and the parent group worked the BTFE and kept the revenue. In addition - every other group to which my kids belong - football, baseball, cheerleading, softball - the group gets revenue from the photos.
The money from our school pictures goes to the school. It goes to a special account that is used for supplies and such. (I think)
Our PTO is in charge of our very successful box tops program. Sometimes the money goes into the general account and sometimes it goes toward something special, such as an outside drinking fountian.
My PTG board members have been questioning the income from school photos. Who is entitled to the money? Does it belong to the school or the parent teacher group? Who keeps the money from school pictures in your school?
Does anyone do boxtops? Who keeps the income from that? The school or the parent teacher group?
