The General Mills Box Tops for Education folks are hosting coordinator seminars at 20 locales around the country (June-July '05). They did it last year, too.
This year, I provided a 15-20 minute video presentation on some general fundraising basics as part of the BTFE seminar.
Tim,
I'll contact Trish at BTU. I would really like to get the info for my next PTO Board meeting July 12. The group will be more open to comments from an expert such as yourself than from me.
Mary Allen - I totally agree with you. I know we face some tough economic realities, but I strongly feel that parent groups #1 goal should be volunteerism and they should fight the image of becoming a fundraising machine.
To me there are two issues. 1) The amount of fundraising a group does. 2) The group's image - how it portrays its accomplishments.
It's way too easy to measure a year's actitivies by how many fundraisers were held, how many dollars were raised. To me that sends the wrong message. Fundraising should be a tool to achieve specific objectives - not an objective itself.
Tim spoke via video at the Box Tops University in Chicago. How can I get a copy of the comments he made? I'm especially interested in the concept of scaling back on fundraising. I feel like our PTO exsists for the wrong reasons.
