Follow on to my earlier post. I booked a recent trip through Schoolhouse Travel. A week long business trip that totaled $790.00, which was actually cheaper than my companies travel site offer. My son's school will get about $21.00.
I did learn that the 5% of the cost of the trip that Schoolhouse mentions doesn't include airfare, because Expedia.com doesn't make any money on airfare and doesn't give any affiliate fees on it either.
Also learned that Schoolhouse Travel will pay out to the school once they get a total of $50.00.
All in all....seems like a pretty easy addition to other fund raising efforts.
The thing Brad posted about is similar to something really taking off in our area right now called FundsOn. There are quite a few booster clubs especially that are starting to sign people up. Pretty much the same thing as Groupon and Living Social. I really like the idea, but its success is going to depend on what kinds of offers the can get from businesses, and probably who can get to the markets first. Moolala looks to be planning a nationwide rollout.
If we were going to participate in something like this, I might then stop actively promoting some of the other programs where you get a percentage of the sale of something someone buys on the Internet, like Box Tops marketplace, because it does start to get confusing to promote too many things.
We participate in
Boxtops for Education
,
Target Take Charge of Education
, and our local grocery store's rewards card program (
Harris Teeter Together in Education
). We also have a relationship with a local pizza place that gives our school $2 per pizza if the person brings a coupon (in return, we sponsor several grade-level pizza parties there during the year). As a uniform school, we also collect used uniforms from kids on special days where they don't have to wear them, then resell the items for $5 each, and we participate in Land's End uniform program.
I like the idea of earning money for your school just for eating there with your family, but we are running into the dilemma of how many of these programs do you want to offer before you are muddying the waters?
Hi I'm Brad... husband of Kelley father of 4 daughters... Spring Hill TN.
I have an out of the box idea for fund raising that could be a very cool thing...
It's based on a new website similar to groupon but they pay a small commission for every purchase made by someone you have referred. It's totally free just like groupon. It could work very similar to the grocery store community rewards thing if a PTA were to sign up and send it out to the parents. I posted a blog about it and am trying to get the word out.
the blog is "the pursuit of surrender . blogspot . com"
Hello I was reading someone's post about getting money from Target, Kroger and Food Lion. I wanted to know what steps did you take to receive donations from those companies. Who did you speak with or did you write a letter? and if so who did you give it to.
By "passive" do you mean...not having to actually do something...like sell door to door or bake cookies?
We just saw a flyer at our school from Schoolhouse Travel. Sounded pretty interesting. You book your travel through them and they refund up to 5% of the travel cost to your school. Haven't used them yet, but the parents at the last PTA meeting thought it was a pretty cool idea.
