nut-free fundraiser

Extreme? Ummm - I don't think so not when a child could die if exposed. I guess some adults still don't get it. Just an FYI - Van Wyk candies are only PEANUT free - not NUT free so be careful to look for that.

A good company to use for peanut free candy is Van Wyk Confections. Their chocolate is peanut free and nut free. They are a great company to work with and I think they have a couple of choices when it comes to chocolate bars.

It's quite possibly because their PTO/PTA understands that the allergic children should be included, too and cares about the fact that the kids with allergies can't participate when the product they are selling could kill them.

Why does your fundraiser need to be nut-free? That seems pretty extreme to me. I understand limiting consumption at school for fear of severe allergies, but for most people nuts are an important diet staple.

In our school there are huge limitations on what food can be made available to students during school hours. Primarily the restrictions are around high-fat, high-sugar items for nutritional reasons. But even so, those restrictions don't extend to the fundraisers when items are being purchased for personal use/consumption at home.

It would seem the same logic would appear to fundraisers at a nut-free school. Is this a school/district requirement?

I know there are some schools that have gone pretty extreme, even sending home notes advising the families not to feed their own children PB and other nut-based products at home during the school week because of potential residue. It's a hugely controversial issue.

But if you have no choice - what about a selling some sort of fruit or non-edible products? I always liked the Entertainment books with the discount coupons.

Our school is nut-free and I am having a VERY difficult time finding food fundraisers (cookie dough, pretzels, candy....) that are nut-free. I thought I found a company in Canada that would work, but they don't ship to the US, and we are in Massachusetts. Does anyone know of any nut-free companies we could use for our Fall fundraiser? I would love some input!
