Staples does $2.00 per cartridge and a limit of 10 per month, UNLESS you are a platinum member.
Office Depot gives $3.00 per cartridge with a limit of 20 per month. The CATCH is you have to BUY quarterly from Office Depot the amount you turn in cartridges. If you don't you lost your toner cartridges that you turned in.
We do ours through Staples. I've forgotten what the amount is but we get a certain $ amount per cartridge. We could either take a lower amount and get cash or a higher amount as a store credit. We took the credit and the school gets copy paper and office supply stuff from there with the credit.
Thank you so much everyone! There are so many ways for our school to "go green". Since it is our first year and with many challenges ahead of us we going to need to take baby steps. However, every little bit makes a difference. I believe just educating our students is the first step and it will just progress from there! We are registered with Terracycle and will be collecting juice pouches and starting our juice pouch brigade. I'm sure many more "brigades" will be added over the years.
We will also be recycling printer cartridges this year. Thanks again for all the great info!

We do one and we have raised over $1000 in a year. We use advantage cartridge recycling and they are great! They seem to have really good prices for returns.
I don't personally handle the program so I'm not aware of the details but we use Office Depot for our cartridge recycling program. Contact them for more details....good luck!

Catridges for Kids has a recycling program, and they take cell phones, and more.
We use Office Max and have been very happy with the results. They seem to take all types/brands and you earn $3 (Office Max gift cards) per cartidge. We use the earnings to purchase supplies and prizes during our Walk-A-Thon.
We recycle our cartridges through Staples....they take 10 per card (every parent has the PTO president on their card, since you can have three names) and we use the monies from the Staples program to buy items for the school and for our awards programs

Staples does in store drop-off of cartridges, but they changed their policy as of 07/01/2010 to a limit of 10 cartridges per customer per month. For reference please see: www.staples.com/sbd/cre/products/3dollar_inkrecycle. So for marginally successful programs this might not be bad, but for wildly successful programs this is limiting. Of course many printer manufacturers run their own programs, but require the cartridges to be sent, which means possibly paying postage, etc.
Try funding factory they are online. They take ink, and cell phones and they have new program coming out.

Yep, that is who we are going to go with too! Haven't yet, but I did request a kit and they sent it fairly quickly!!
don't know who we use. But we recycle the cartridges, old shoes, batteries, capri sun pkgs, cans, bottles, aluminum pop tops, plastic caps from sodas and all bottles, uniforms, candie wrappers and I know that there is some sort of crayon recycling too. I can find out about the recycle company for cartridges after school starts back up.
Our school uses Empties for Cash - www.empties4cash.com/. I don't know how much we have earned off hand, but everyone seems quite pleased with it.
If you are talking about ink cartridges then yes if you have an office depot go to them, we $3.00 for every cartridge (20 per month) we also get a percentage of what people spend if they let the cashiers know that they are with our school, anyway check them out and get more details Office Depot is Awesome! hope this helps.
Hey Jen, we are a rural community, and our school recycles all paper buy donating it to a local farmer who shreds it into bedding for his animals. There are so many ways to go green. Good luck!!
Hi we use Cartridges for kids and they have flyers and free postage and it works really great,
They even recycle cell phones, old game systems, laptops, ipods ect, good luck
If you haven't already signed up with Terracycle, you need to check them out. They "Upcycle" lots of waste into reusable items such as backpacks, pencil cases, kites, tote bags, and much more. They are based in NJ. We started a program here at school where we Upcycle granola/energy/cereal bar wrappers, chip bags, yogurt containers, drink pouches, wine corks, and soo much more. To date we have earned almost $700 from upcycling over 11,000 bar wrappers, 14,000 corks (we pick up from local restaurants and wine shops), 600+ drink pouches, etc. You will need to use your school's non-profit Tax ID #. You can even enlist local businesses to collect coffee bags to upcycle and put your school as the designated charity. Google to terracycle.
Another site to check out is SnackTaxi Teach your kids about reducing waste. Have them buy bulk crackers, etc and use the amazing washable, Snack Taxi. They do a great fundraising program with their poouches too! This will decrease plastic bag waste as well!
