I think a pledge drive would be great and being your starting from scratch they would be more understanding. Maybe have cutouts or something where they can put there name on it and hang them up on the wall. One year we did something similiar we laminated a tree trunk and then donation names were written on apples. Our theme was one apple can make a difference, but a bunch of apples makes a HUGE difference. Or something to that effect it was awhile ago. You could have your school mascot for the cutouts would be another idea.
If you could get a donation for a raffle that might help too. ex tickets for a sporting event, tv, wii, laptop, etc and raffle that off they bring in good money too and they are low cost to run if the item is donated.
Good LUCK!!!!

We are starting a new PTO at a new school (8th elementary school in our district) and we are starting with very little funds. We are considering doing a one time pledge drive this summer. Has anyone done one? What are the pro's and con's? We aren't thrilled about having to ask for money right off the bat but we will be a big school (2nd largest of the elementary schools) and we want our children to have the same advantages as the other schools. While it will be great to have a brand new building and state of the art technology our PTO will still be responsible for the programs and services for the students and staff as the other PTO's. ANy ideas or feedback is greatly appreciated!
