Thank you all for your responses.. it has been a stressful event that is for certain.. we did have them sign release and responsibiliy forms but it hasn't done much in helping the enforcement. Its very sad. We made enough to pay the vendor but our profit was half of what it should have been. We won't be doing anymore of these sales.. everything will be a prepay type event. I was just wondering if there was anything creative to do for enforcement.
We are having the same problem at our school with our 2 mandatory fund raisers this year. We require parents to sell 75 - $1.00 chances twice a year. The winners receive $2500 - $1000 - $500. All money raised goes back into the school and for the students one way or another. This year we have decided that anyone who cannot or will not accept this will have their child/children prohibited from school field trips, 8th grade graduation trips, dances and parties and will not be allowed at our year end firld day celebrations. Plus there is a possibility or no report cards be given. It is really not fair to the student(s) but letting the parents off is not fair to the majority of parents who do live up to their responsibilities.
I have to agree with middle age dad there. 5k is an awful lot of money to be short! If you are doing this amount of sales on your fundraisers, you should be collecting up front and really should look at other products.
Will World's Finest work with you on the losses? I hope you can get the money in but if you've already sent letters home, you may want to be up-front with them and let them know that you don't have the money to pay. I'm sure they have some plan for situations like this.
This is a tough situation because every day that goes by is another payment you won't be getting in.
$5,000 is a lot of money. Really, you should not do a sale unless it is pre-collect. You might address letters to all the guilty parents and have the principal sign it. this may scare them into action.
Since this was probably candy bars, in the future, you might have the parents sign a note indicating they are responsible for all monies due. However, good luck in enforcing this. My advice--stay away from future candy bar sales.
Hi Everyone!!! I have a question on collecting past due fundraiser money. Our PTO recently held the Worlds Finest Chocolate Fundraiser and we are having difficulty getting parents to turn in past due funds.. Our fundraiser closed February 19th and here we are a month later still 5k short... any suggestions or ideas? We have sent letters and tried to communicate but we aren't getting much of a response... HELP!
