You're way better off paying for a talented professional auctioneer. He will bring in more for your live auction items and will end up covering his fee with the extra money!
I have been involved in Hillbrook School's Auction for the past 8 years. My husband has been the auctioneer every year and the Live Auction has raised over $100,000 each year with 18-20 items!

Hi Kathy-
Have heard from auction chairs that hiring a professional auctioneer is well worth the money -- because their fee is canceled out by the additional money an auctioneer brings in, and then some.
