Not all cookie dough is the same!! There are only a small number of companies that actually produce the dough, with different labels, but they are different. The best advise is to ask for samples! Also watch for hidden cost with different companies - minimium order required? case qty ordering only? shipping charges? We work with a wonderful company in SC that schedules a delivery time - no surprises on when the truck will show up. Our rep deliveries it and helps distribute it!
We tried a new fundraiser this year using a company (sorry don't remember the name) where the parents just had to send there orders and then they got coupons for the cookie dough and had to go online and have it shipped to them. Now in my opinion I wouldn't do it again because we didn't make hardly anything and our fall fundraiser is our big one for the year! Now it may have to do with the economy here in this part of Michigan but really I think people couldn't justify spending $16 on a tub of cookie dough!! I had no part in the decision as this is our first year at the new school and the decision was made last spring but I just hope that I can help make up for it with the raffle at carnival this spring!!
Although I am not a pto mom, I am the vp in a mom's club. We have well over 200 memebers in our community and are always looking for fun ways to earn money to lessen the cost for our memebers for outings and such. WE too have done a cookie dough sale with MC Fundraisers. Our rep was wonderful and we made enough money to cover all of our monthly outings for at least a year. We will be using this company in the future. The cookie dough they offer is Little Lambs, as well as Auntie Anne's Pretzel products, cheesecakes and snacks.
Our order was pre-sorted by each moms name and we didnt have any mixed up orders. We sold well over 2000 boxes of cookie dough. I should also mention the cookie dough is wonderful!!
We are looking into the salsa fundraiser as well, it seems like it would be a great addition to our cookie dough sale.
Does anyone remember the the old commercials where a person did not know what particular item they were tasting as the company had rearranged the products and their names? Interesting, as one of our local boards did the same thing with cookie dough. They mixed up Otis Spunkmyer cookie dough , Pine Valley cookie dough, and the cookie dough from three other companies and then asked their members to taste the products and tell them which cookies came for Otis and down the line. The members could not tell. It was that close. I guess my point is that all frozen cookie dough is pretty much the same. As other people pointed out, it is the service, the price, and the prizes that make the difference. For example, some companies make you buy only in full cases. You end up paying for extra cookie dough you did not order. On the other hand, some companies will ship to the piece. It makes a difference.
The best cookie dough out there is otis spunkmeyer or chippery. Someone said you have to get it direct now, but that is not the case until next year. As posted earlier, your rep makes a huge difference but so do the prizes. It is a lot of work, but it does bring in the money. We do a gift and wrapping paper in the fall and our cookie dough in the spring. I looked at that Mc fundraising, and they have no prizes and the cookie dough brand is not that great tasting. I would steer away from the no prize thing, as the kids do so much better with prizes. it sounds like some schools are doing well, but I am sure they would do even better with a good prize program.
We sell cookie dough for fundraising, so I have had the opportunity to sample many of the cookies available in fundraising. Let me tell you, they are not all equal.
I highly suggest you get samples of several different varieties before you agree to work with a provider.
Dry mix is often not as good and takes more work for the people who buy it. However, if you find one that tastes great it may be worth considering.
When it comes to working with frozen food, its not only the quality that matters. Make sure your provider has delivery solutions that work for your group's needs. For instance, if you don't have freezer space to store product that isn't picked up, can they offer you any assistance?
All of this being said, selling cookies is a great way to make a very good profit. Everyone loves cookies. Just make sure you have good cookies and are completely comfortable with the company that you are working with.
