My experience with catalogs in the last two years is overpriced items I could find elsewhere a lot cheaper. The catalog pictures are deceiving, the item is a lot smaller than it appears, the prizes are a joke, etc. I'm hoping to do a walkathon next year, our catalog profit was only $5000 last year, walkathon has got to be better!
We did the no catalog thing this year!
Given I was not pleased with the idea at the planning meeting at the end of last year... BUTTTTTTTTT
We did a Fun Run in September! IT was AWESOME! We made more money than we had with catalog sales! We also have a carnival at the start of Spring! It is work, but the kids love it, more than the catalogs!
For the Fun Run we gave gifts... for collecting X amount! My daughter collected $300 from just her father's side! The rest of my kids did great with my side! It was amazing how quick they would write a check even though they were not getting anything! It is called -support your kid... not lets go shopping!
We did have some parents complain... BUT heads up for the parents... out of 100, only 5 did not want to do it again~
Why is everyone so down on catalog sales? We all hate them and complain about them. But we always make a lot of money on them. Easy money, I might add. Our new Board has suggested there will be no catalog sale next year -- but I am wondering why do away with something that makes over $10,000 profit with little or no effort. Makes no sense. Thoughts, anyone??
