Even though you may consider this a "noble" cause, many people see this as merely an attempt to acquire extra funds for an already overfunded buracracy. The constant need to "buy", because it will help the children is ridiculous. If you are really interested in acquiring funds for your school, please refer to todays Wall Street Journal (03/29/2007), the article is in section D - Personal Journal, 'Parents Rebel Against School Fund-Raisers'. There is some very interesting information there that I believe should be read by everyone in this forum.
As a business owner you have that right - as a parent and small business owner I couldnt disagree with u more- our fundraising efforts have no bearing or dont pay for an over funded buearacracy (our Beauracracy is one good- but bad because like Parental Involvement the US is severly lacking- ie less than 40% vote but 90% bitch and whine -- our dilemna is the same us here a the minority but as I've said in other posts 'NOT silent in the least'- we pay for childrens lunches, student supplies, teacher supplies, parent involvment and education, textbooks, curriculum, fieldtrips and technology, music and sicence classes (slowly being rooted out of schools) family activities that an overfunded beauracracy (and many communites and businesses )ignores.
you can send my subscription of the Wall Street Journal to my home and I will distribute copies to all whom wish to read this drivel (the article has a good premise-- parents are tired of buying trinkets and crap to fund programs states and federal should fund.... but 'we do the Noble' because we must... Many dont have the resources to write or learn to write, research grants , etc -- Maybe you'd like to setup a free consulting/grantwriting/ think tank???? -- It a kin to Election time for those of us whom vote -- a lesser of 2 evils deal
If helping my childschool get computers and a better education and buying crap trinkets is noble ... Then I'm the 'in' with the noblest people on the face of this planet AND know what I'm talking about (ask me I'll tell ya) I usually dont take half of what is derived from some left-wing liberal financial dogcage liner rag as anything near the truth for the average man or woman or as correct in any shape or form (Especially becasue of its label or name) .... an article from a newspaper/ magazine does not make it correct or even close (show me 500 articles, research studies and the like and maybe I'll listen or consider it- I can show you 500 or more studies that show fundraisng, parental involvement and Noble fundraisng increase social, economic and education in families regardless of economic or ethnic standing / background and unfortunately sometime go together like G Payton and "The GLove")
I despice fundraising and am working towards culling and sharing my grant knowledge with others
Step out into our world before you libel what you dont know ... an open invitation to change the ways we run is here... Post your knowledge (more than one 'media rag' ) to ENLIGHTEN us ALL... I throw down the gauntlet ARE you up for it???
A business community that doesnt support education, its employees childrens education, its employees education and homelife should not be supported by its community
