Hi Maggie -
Do you have a link or a more specific reference? Two things have me questioning: 1) I'm in MA and follow this stuff pretty closely. Surprised I haven't heard of it. 2) MA is approximately 95%+ PTO, so it's rare when there's any kind of PTA story here. I wouldn't be surprised if both groups in question here (provided the story is true) are PTOs. Often, the PTA name is used more as a Kleenex-type name by those (most) who don't know the differences.
Now I'm confused, one of the reasons I have supported PTO is all the information I have received here regarding the PTA's too liberal stance on such topics.
If all that stuff I read here is true about Liberal PTA< why would the gays be excluded? And why does PTO accept them???
On this last part, the key part of the definition of PTO is that PTOs are all independent. There could be a PTO about anything/by anyone. What one PTO does has no reflection on another, because there's no connection between the two. The dues of your PTO don't support in any way a PTO that you don't agree with (or a state or national PTO that you don't agree with). Does that make sense? I think you're equating the PTA structure with the PTO structure (or lack thereof), which is confusing you.
Hi!!!If they're gay so what. That doesn't make a person. It's nobody's business what someone does behind closed doors. I don't think PTOs would discriminate against anyone who is gay. They are parents & people, too. They have the same interest....the education of their child. My husband & I know a couple of people who are gay & we don't treat them any different. That group you were talking about need to put aside their differences & work together for their children as one group. It's no different than saying someone is blue so therefore has to be excluded. Good Luck!!!
