it will get everyone more aware of your structure and what you pay in dues and what you get in return.
True Tim;
For less that the cost of a Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts coffee you get a voice for your children's education in Washington,D.C. and at the State level.
Seems like a real bargain to me!!!
As PTA president have you attended any council, district or state meetings or conventions?
Think about what your reasons are for wanting change. What will PTO do to change your group?
If your reasons are organizational, have you contacted council, district or state PTA for help? There are many resources and programs available to PTA members to help them!
If you have a philosophical problem with PTA, you can always voice your opinions to the state and national board. I assume that you wouldn't move out of state just because one political party or the other came to power. PTA is a membership organization where ALL voices are heard! "every child, one voice"
Please look closely at your true reasons, and wht can be done to resolve the issues. Is it really going to be solved by changing the "A" to an "O"??
I'd start with your board and your most involved leaders. And I'd simply start with a conversation. Many of your fellow leaders likely don't even know that there is a difference or that so many groups are actually independent PTOs. On the other hand, perhaps some others have looked into this and have some differing points of view.
A conversation -- and perhaps sharing some links and reading material -- can't hurt anything. If nothing else, it will get everyone more aware of your structure and what you pay in dues and what you get in return.
I am PTA president at my daughter's middle school. I have never been part of a PTA board, now after doing a little research I would like for our school to switch to a PTO. How would I approach the other PTA board members and the school?
