One of the reasons we are considering changing to a PTO is because we would really like to keep all the money at the school. Our school is in a low income district, and it is rather frustrating when we have to send part of our funds off somewhere. And for what?? Last year we had a PTA rep come to our school and the majority of what was discussed was what we could not do, not what we could do. We really dont see much support here from the national or state PTA.
Hey CRYS;
What are the problems that your PTA is having? And what would change by being PTO?
Too often groups feel frustrated and leave PTA only to find that many of the same problems still exist when they form a PTO.
If there are concerns, have you contacted your PTA district, or State for help? You might be surprized!
The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence!
Really analyze those things that are making your PTA "flounder" and work to fix them!
Thanks for the info. We are struggling to keep the PTA going and I (and a few other leaders) are thinking that we will be better off changing to a PTO. I have found lots of great information on this website and from other hard working parents.
I was president of both groups for all of three days until our disaffiliation vote went through!
Lucky me, I like me so very much they decided to keep me as PTO President for another two years. Either keep me or find another sucker, I guess it was just easier to keep me.... Don't tell my husband, he thinks I'm out after this year.
Our PTA is considering changing to a PTO and I am wondering if it is a conflict of intrest (or anything else) is the PTA leaders are the same leaders on the PTO. We would like to make any changes go as smoothly as possible.
