I have a question. In deciding to switch to a PTO after having been a PTA, why go through the hassle of disbanding or dissolving right away? Why not just start the PTO at the beginning of the school year and not promote the old "PTA" at all? We are considering doing this. We have very little funds that will carry over into the next year. The 2004-2005 PTA membership (which is very low) expires at the end of the month. Techinically, we will then have no members except the newly elected officers (us). We would have no members to mail notices to, no one to vote on dissolving, ect. We typically have 6 people show up at the PTA meetings. We don't anticipate any opposition to organizing and promoting a PTO at the beginning of the new school year. In fact the administration supports this. We can spend the remaining funds down to nothing which would leave the PTA with no assets, no members, nothing. Couldn't we just let the PTA go inactive? We have already set up new accounts, applied for 501(c) status, ect.We thought we'd start off the new year fresh and promote a new PTO and build from there. At some point, we could formally dissolve the PTA, but is it something we have to right away. What if we simply do nothing?
