We had our disbanding meeting last night and WON!!
Months of planning for this night and it actually went smoother than I anticipated.
Our State President and The District PTA person attended. We gave them 10 minutes to speak. They hit all the important aspects. Insurance, Training, Legislation, Incorporating, Non Profit and Membership.
We spoke for 10 minutes, pointing out that all the same aspects are available to us. The main thing was paying for membership.
For 20 minutes the floor was open to Q & A. More questions about what was going to happen if we changed to a PTO. A few questions for the PTA.
Voting was simple. We had a Student Council member check peoples name off of the Membership Log and hand them a piece of paper to circle one, then place it in a box. We had 3 volunteers from the group to count. 34 people attended...For our school that is about double what usually shows at a meeting. 27 voted PTO 7 voted PTA!
My husband asked me if I would do this all over again or would I just go "dark". To be honest, I would do it again. We did it the right way, we let everyone have a chance to be involved in it. My decision was easy to make...Keeping in mind that he asked me after we won!!!
I would like to take a second to thank Tim for his help. I have been posting things on this site for a few months now. I was so surprised when Tim sent me his phone number and asked me to call him, to clarify better an email I had sent PTOTODAY. This was a huge thing to me! He didn't know if I was a NPN member or not. He just wanted to help me. THANK YOU!
Oh by the way Lisa...He is a rock star to me!
