I am new here (though I have been to the website before) and would like any information on starting a PTO.
A little background on our district, we DO have a PTA (one for every school in the district). However, many feel they just don't do enough. I AM NOT knocking them at all, they do what THEY feel is right. I am thankful for what they do.
However, I would like to start a PTO to do fundraising for items that are needed in the classrooms (our PTAs by-laws forbid this). Though it would not be for that sole purpose only.
I have received opposition (from 'you have no idea how to run a non-profit' to 'we will make sure it does not happen'. These are the actual words said to me!) at this notion from every level of the PTA here - school level, District Council level & County level. However, the Supt. of Schools does support it.
Where would I start?? Is there an 'outline' to follow? Would joining the NPN help me in getting started??
I know, too many questions! But, I have never done this before and would really appreciate any help!!
