Sure. You are in the process of taking all the right steps. The EIN number is key. I'd also start the 501c3 application process. In both cases, you can "operate" while setting up.
For 501c3, once you're approved, the approaval is actually retroactive to when you started the group, so your early efforts will be "nonprofit" even though you may not be formally approved for months.
I certainly wouldn't be putting any more $$ into the PTA account, if you're planning on being all done at end of September. You're doing things correctly. Nice work.
Our school is the process of converting to a PTO and will officially dissolve the PTA Sep 29. We have an EIN. But, we are still in the process of writing bylaws and setting up the board. Can we begin fundraising for PTO?
