Others will probably respond, but the short answer seems to be: "Don't worry. It's not as bad as you think. You CAN succesfully disband/convert if that is what the majority of your membership wants and you are careful to follow your bylaws.".
I would suggest you change the option at the top that of this page that says "show topics from the last X (probably 45) days" to "show topics from the last year". Then scan through the postings. You will see a LOT of PTA to PTO type messages. I think reading through those will give you a lot good basic information. Then come back with specific questions.
Our State PTA here in Rhode Island is threatening to have us audited and take whatever money is in our checking account if we try to become a PTO. They said we have to go through all kinds of channels and we can't just drop PTA and become a PTO. Does anyone know if they can legally come in and prevent us from becoming a PTO. Do they have a right to audit our checkbook and take our money? What kind of channels did other PTO's go through to become PTO's? If anyone out there has a definitive answer, please post here as soon as possible. Thanks!
