Well sounds really messy, i suggest rallying support from parents and maybe informing school board. Sounds pretty ugly where is the past president on this? any close by PTO or PTA for help? i wish you well

Principal vs. PTO was created by amillerg
Long story short..principal held mtng in Oct for anyone wanting to be on PTO. Past PTO was there for 4 yrs and all had left. I attended along with only 4 others. We raised hands as for what officer position we wanted to hold. At that time I was nominated Secretary. Myself, and the 3 other acting officers, planned and put together a last minute Family Fun Night for halloween night. We had a few mtngs. We then sent flyer, reading our names from Pres-Secretary, and saying that anyone else wanting to run needed to attend becasue we would be holding an election night, I was assuming we would be "installed" by the Principal that night. Well, the Principal had a PTA rep show up and for the whole hour they talked about PTA and us switching over. No Robt Rules of Order very unorganized. Needless to say the topic got heated because they wouldnt divulge the PTA's Rules and Regulations, etc...so secretive..and by the end of the hour no one was officially installed by anyone. So we are still "acting PTO officers." I guess, although no one else showed up to run. We as a group met within a few days and 3 to 1 we voted not to go PTA, we would focus on parental involvement which we have none, and set up next years officers with enough info that if they decided to switch next yr OK, well I advised the principal next mornign of our decision, I dont know why but he is in big hurry to get this PTA switched. After I informed him we voted to not go PTA he said he decided he was going to call for a vote, he would schedule a date send out flyer to parents and ask parents to vote PTA or PTO! He was over-ruling our decision. My question is this....can he do that?? and also how can the parents vote if they are not PTO members. If they arent members then they dont have a vote...wrong or right??? Please help. Can he do this since we were never installed by hiom, but at same time, he was supposed to install us that night and didnt. Seems as though he hasnt installed us for his benefit so he can say we arent official and override whatever decision we made about this whole PTO/PTA thing! Since that night the Pres has now stepped down to Vice Pres. and I am "acting Pres." for now. What can you tell me about our rights.
