going from a PTA to a PTO is not all that hard if you have parents, teachers, and school administraters behind you.Our school had been PTA for close to 40 years and it took only 2 years and a bad board to blow it all to pieces.Last year we had no active PTA one board member (the treasure)and the princepal.A group of us parents got together at the beginig of this year and vioced our opinion for a PTO. It WORKED!!!! the national PTA rep. came to our school and all the paid 1999/2000 paid board members voted to change to PTO. We had only 41 paid members last year but it only took a 2/3rds vote of all members preasent to change it.We did how ever lose all funds in our bank account that was PTA's but they went to some of the reading programs at our school so it realy wasn't a loss after all.Our PTO started with 0 and within 3 weeks we raised $200.00 selling candy after school, so we have a bank account, great working board, lots of volunteer mom and dads and alot more smiles on the faces of parents and their childern. What I am saying is IF your group wants a change DO IT!!!!!!!!!! DON'T quit THINK OF THE KIDS :)

We are currently a PTA. We are having a problem with giving the money that our children have earned to an organization that has no idea what the children of our school need. We are true "Child Advocates" our agenda is to make things better for our children, however, we have seen absolutely NO direct support from ANY level of the PTA. We feel that our families work very hard for our children, and that the money should stay here with OUR children. If there is anything that anyone can submit that we could use to make out transition easier...
Thank you,
