We had that at this time last year. The state president of the PTA and the state membership chair both came. At first, they talked about all kinds of services that we never used and didn't feel we need. then whne it seemed like we were leaving, they got perturbed and tried to make things seem difficult. We voted to go PTO and we did it in one month and everything's been fine. If I had it to do over again, I would have made the discussion shorter and had a time limit. They could have made a 5-minute talk, then I would have done 5 minutes on why we should have gone PTO with maybe 5 more minutes for q+a, and then we would have moved on with a vote one way or the other. It shouldn't have been a 1-hour discussion.
FEPTA - From different posts on this board I have heard that district and state reps. sometimes come out in force to try to persuade the unit to remain PTA. Unfortunately their intervention is probably a day late and a nickle short. What I have also determined is that when a PTA has decided to go PTO it is usually because the unit has not been run as PTA intends our units to run. It does happen that units stray away from the PTA purposes and so, members do not see the use in remaining a PTA. Make sure you follow the disbandment section of your bylaws and hopefully if this is what your unit truly wants to do, it will go smoothly. How many years has your unit been a PTA?
Our group is probably going to go PTO. Now the regional PTA rep. has asked to speak at our next meeting. Has anyone had this at their group? I'm wondering what to expect at that visit.
