That's a topic that's been discussed a lot in this Forum. I'd suggest running a search on the term PTA and spending some time reading back discussions.
What we did is:
1. Check your PTA bylaws as there are occasionally minor differences in the process per state. Our bylaws weren't very specific, but I've heard some people mention that they had to invite a PTA rep. to speak. That sounds funny to me.
2. Insurance. Insurance is available for PTOs. Our rate went up somebecause we couldn't get PTA group rates.
3. Timing. Changing does not have to be a long process (2 meetings maybe). Discussing and voting are the key steps and then setting up your new group. We brought it up last May and voted on it last June.
I need to know all the steps I need to take for our school to go from a PTA to a PTO. *What about the $ in our account. When does it have to be spent by.
*Insurance?
*How long does it take to do so?
*Is there someone I can call and talk to?
*What is the first step in getting started???
