question - DOES THE PTA TREASURER HAVE TO SEND IN ACCOUNTING TO SHOW WHAT OR WHERE ALL THE MONIES GO. AND PTO DOES NOT HAVE TO ACCOUNT FOR THERE ACTIVITY. ALSO IF THE PTO IS TRYING TO ORGANIZE A NEW ENGLAND MEETING ARE THEY GOING TO START TO ASK FOR DUES FROM EACH PTO?
Being PTA is about being a part of something larger, but local groups also get a lot for the small amount of dues.
PTA groups are able to take advantage of training and PTA programs. There's a PTA magazine that goes to all PTA presidents. And more. All of that for about $2 per member. It's a small price to pay for a lot of value.
IMO........I think we need to get our PTOs' up and running well before we join such a large group like PTA. We are having a hard enough time getting parents/teachers involved now, how will it be if we tell everyone they need to pay dues to help kids across the country when they already squawk at supporting kids from their own hometown?????
The PTA is much too involved politically. This has created a lot of division within our own local group. I personally refuse to send my dues, however small, to a lobbying group I disagree with.
We are a PTO and I don't think we are changing any time soon but I do have a lot of friends from back home who tell me that their state (Georgia) and area PTA is very active. They use PTA training and materials a lot.
