Texas PTA is so very pushy. Our district brings in a huge amount of money to them, so it's super high pressure to be PTA over PTO. In addition, our local Council of PTAs is overbearing to local PTAs. It's the most political system I've ever seen in any of the states we've lived in. I wish the school district understood that they lose some great parent support by allowing PTAs to have stronger district support than PTOs. It's like a monopoly that corrupts and controls. I am so sorry you are having to deal with them.
So sorry to hear of your struggles. Bottom line, they can't force you to return to the PTA if you don't want to go. Do your parents still want you on the track you are on? The, stick with it. The PTA can technically claim your assets -- but from your old PTA, not your new PTO. Hang in there! Do what is right for your community.
Last year we checked with district, got the support of our principal, and voted to start a PTO. It has been great so far and has freed us from the burden of paying dues and other PTA restriction which did not work well for our school. Now a new person has started at district and is forcing us to go back to PTA. The principal feels she has to tow the company line and do whatever district wants. I'm so discouraged and tired of fighting. I was ambushed by our local Texas PTA rep at a meeting with district person and principal. I asked all the tough questions and got no valid responses. I put a lot of time and energy into doing what I and our teachers and parents believe is best for our school. PTA has been threatening to try to claim our assets. I'm so upset but also tired of fighting.
