Sounds more like an organized group rather than an organization. Is it a PTO? If so, I would assume you have bylaws. Were they voted in on the night of elections, and were they nominated to be in those positions?
First step is to get a set of bylaws that all can live with. That document is a set of rules where you can run meetings, vote officers in, get board nominations, decide what is a quorum, etc. There are examples on this website, or ask other schools for a copy of their bylaws to get you started.
Wondering if anyone has had the problem of teachers overtaking the meeting only when its the night to vote...I have just joined a PTO and it seem like the teachers have takin over....We have all our officers without bylaws, OUR president is a teachers sister, OUR VPRES is a TEACHER our sec is a good friend of a teacher( and didnt come to any meeting besides to get voted in) and the treasurer is a teachers wife...( she has never come to a meeting and came to the meeting to vote and left and got voted in!!!) The teachers took over our PTO only the night of voting!! As parents nominated, we all felt very disrespected by our kids educators!! wanting some opinions:)
