Sorry to get off the subject, but I really have to wonder what some people are thinking. This Laura Mallory has no right to judge something she obviously doesn't know anything about. Witchcraft is not at all evil. I found it very intresting to learn that alot of Christian traditions have some pagan roots. It makes sense, the Christians wanted Pagans to convert to Christianity.

No need for a soapbox. And I agree that banning books is completely un-American.

We (parents) need to take on the responsibility of parenting, teaching our children our values, our expectations of them. So when they do go into the world (whether it be at 5, 9, 14 or 18) that we know we layed the groundwork and hopefully they will make choices accordingly. Parents have to stop mico-managing every little thing in the schools and in our children's lives. If you don't like the book, tell your child you expect them not to read it. They are your children, you can tell them what they can and cannot do... they are children.

Isn't the goal at the end of the day to raise productive, responsable, contributing members to society? Not to raise individuals who cannot make wise decisions on their own, but instead turn to mom and pop for every little thing... or worse don't and then turn to trouble.

Did not mean to offend anyone, just venting my mind as it seems so many don't want to take responsibility these days and that everyone feels they are entitiled to having things their way.

Natural Selection- too many people that in the 'Hunter Gatherer' days woulda fallen by the wayside- I'm not proposing any genocide type action but cant their be some Contitutional ban against 'Idiots procreating' and screwing up the Gene pool?

The taxpayers should bill her, those idiots filing claims in the liberal 9th circuit court, and censorship, anti- whatever, book banning for their lack of 'Common Sense'

A 'Common Sense' HS Exit exam should be administered and then retaught at Prenatal, when the babies born and when the kids start school- maybe that'd rid us of idiot parents

There are so many things wrong w/this, I don't even know where to begin, but I will try to get a few ;)

1. “Witchcraft is being mainstreamed to our children today,’’ - Has anyone ever heard of "The Wizard of Oz", "Macbeth", "The Crucible", "Hansel & Gretel", "Casper the Friendly Ghost" just to name a few?!

2. “My children are the most precious thing in the world to me." - Really? Who's aren't.

3. "I surely do not want them to be indoctrinated into a religion whose practices are evil.’’ - Let's have a little perspective. (& possibly a scotche of imagination)
A. If you feel it is not right for your kids, don't let them read it.
B. I am not a witch, but I'm pretty sure the Wiccan religion is not "evil"-unconventional, maybe, but not evil.
C. If your kids can not distiguish between real & fake, then maybe you need to work on that. My daughter is 2 & she knows how to make pretend & that Dora is a cartoon & not a real person. She also knows that there is not a real troll under a bridge.

P.S. I am not some huge Harry Potter maniac. I am, however, a "Constitution Maniac", ie: an American.

Why? why oh why oh why!?!?!?! There are so many very serious issues that our schools and our children face each and every day. If children who have so much negativity in their lives can escape for a few hours in a fantasy book like Harry Potter or any other such fiction that gives them that escape then it should not be taken away from them.

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same."

I use her name, only because it was in the article. Keep in mind that when she started this mess, she had not ready any of the books.

Not really sure how the hearing went-no word on a ruling. This is what the Daily Post had to say about the proceedings:

"Since Tuesday’s hearing was akin to a court procedure rather than a public hearing, attendance at the Georgia Board of Education meeting room in a state office building was sparse.
Hearing officer L.O. Buckland timed each side’s arguments and interrupted Mallory and Sweeny only briefly to ask questions."
