We signed our school up recently and so far have had no problems. We didn't like the letters that looked like they came from the Principal either, so we didn't use those. Instead we put a link on our website and a notice in our newsletter. One family had recently renewed for two years and when they called, they got the $100 for the school without having to go a third year and they got to choose a free gift...an iPod shuffle, a portable dvd player, or a $50 Best Buy gift card. I don't see anything on their website saying you don't get the same deal as anyone else. They give $100 referral fees to existing customers, so this is just giving that fee to a school instead.

But like someone else said instead of you getting all the bells and whistles be it a free dvd player or extra channels with the program the money is used towards the school.
But I think most parents want the bells and whistles and the reduced rates for the short term period. (which that ends after 3 months)
Theres pro and cons to both.
When my school enrolled to receive the parent packs, they told us that we got credited $100 not only for when someone signs up for a year, but for when someone who already HAS DirecTV extends their service for a year. Our school has raised over $1,000 simply from that.

The only glitch I've had so far is that the parents who have had Directv for years, are already on some billing option that is no longer offered and they can't get the same deal now...ie: $39 for basic & 2 premium channels. Whereas now it would be $59.
I have plenty of parents that would sign a new contract, but only if they could keep their same terms...which they can't.
Our principal recently came across this program and got our school enrolled.
It all seemed simple enough to me... I read through the FAQ at the DIRECTV4Schools site and couldn't find a catch anywhere, it's almost too good to be true. I know for a fact that 10 or 11 families at our school already subscribe to DTV, which means that our school could make over $1000 just off of them renewing.
I did have a bit of trouble the first time I called that number though, just like <hard time> did, but the second time I got somebody who knew what they were talking about.
I have had the biggest run around getting questions answered....you call and no one knows what they are doing...right now I am very frustrated....this is a 1 time payout of $100 per account and the money is given in one lump sum to the school at the end of the year unless Direct TV chooses to pay it out differently....For our rual area, alot of people have DirectTV so the program has potential..just wish Direct TV had their act together!
