I have not signed up for this yet but two friends have--it's called "Parent Tools". It's a program you purchase and it will give you word-for-word all of their IM's. I'm thinking it's about $30. I believe it's parent-tools.com (not trying to promote it, though).

You're right to be concerned. This isn't like reading her diary or notes you find in her pocket. This is protecting her from danger. I'm all for respecting our adolesences' privacy, but not where the internet is concerned.

My own son has a 'friend' on a site who felt so comfortable with him that she posted her full name, school picture and hometown. Thanks to an unusual last name, it took about two seconds to find out where she lives with a map to her house! How on earth does she know that my son is the 12 year old boy he claims to be and not some crazy, dangerous adult looking for an easy victim?!?!?! I sent her a message that scared her to death. Within 20 mintues, she removed her photo, her last name and any reference to her hometown. Wheeewww.

I haven't heard of the program you mention but I certainly would like to hear more.

I recently caught my 14 year old daughter chatting on line with someone who was using inappropriate language, and when I asked who the boy was, she replied “a friend”. I wanted to respect her privacy, but was concerned about who she was talking to, so I searched the Internet for IM monitoring programs and found one at www.chatchecker.com

It was a free download, and seems to monitor her IM, and I wanted to ask if anyone has tried it, and get your opinion, or have information about similar software.
