I agree. I send something to my children's teachers just about every month. They really seem to enjoy it. I do it because I appreciate all of the time and energy they spend on each child, and they rarely get a thank you for it.
Really? How else do those parents expect their kids to get As?????
KIDDING - I'm only kidding!!!!!
Seriously, I can't imagine it. I hit Back to School, Book Fair Wish Lists, Christmas, Spring, Teacher Appreciation, Arts Day and End of Year/Summer. In between, if I see a great new book (newest Harry Potter, Pendragon, History Maker Bios, etc) I grab them and send them in with my son.
So, if nobody else says it to you:
Debbie, thank you for being a teacher. You're a true hero!

I would just like to know if any of you wonderful parents are thinking of moving to central Florida. I have a great school for you to join. I can honestly say that in my ten years of teaching, I have never seen anyone get a "welcome back" gift.
I lack dlf's writing creativity but I do love to spoil my son's teachers.
My most favorite thing is books so I buy up new releases over the summer and donate them to the classroom library.
My second favorite thing is office supplies (my SIL thinks I need a support group....) so I love to hit the back to school sales and pick up Sharpie markers, post it notes, pencils, pens, dry erase markers, etc. and make up Welcome Back baskets for the teachers.
To treat the whole staff my husband and I go to the local warehouse store and buy paper plates, napkins, cups, plastic utensils, paper towel, coffee, creamer, sugar, bags of individually wrapped candies (kisses, mints, hard cadies) in bulk for the teachers' lounge.

I have a knack for writting poems (kitchy but cute) for things like this and we had a teacher who was my son's first grade teacher in our new school so I wrote a poem about being each other's "firsts" and then put it on nice paper in script and framed it. Then I drilled two tiny wholes in the top of the frame and joined it with eye hooks to another frame with a photo of her class. Finally I just stapled some pretty ribbon to the top to look like it was going to be a hanger. She absolutely loved it--but it really was a goodbye gift as opposed to a hello gift.
