I know this is kind of late, but I just saw this. We did a family fun fest in June. As part of the fun fest, we brought in smokey bear, an ambulance for the kids to check out and did the ident-i-kid program. The masons volunteered their time and footed the cost for for everything related to the program. They worked in conjuction with the police department - who did the fingerprinting. Each child left with a picture, teeth imprints, a video and their fingerprints. The masons and the police officers said it was the biggest participation that they had. The masons have run this program several times in the area for free and were happy to be an add on to our fair.
Our school photographer provides parents with school id cards and fingerprinting kits to do at home. So at registration in August, we will have id photos done that kids use for lunch and a week later (or so) another id card will be mailed to mom and dad for them to keep.
We do the same. Safety is HUGE with me and it goes well. Not all prents participate but alot do. Sometimes it takes the first time to go through and have other parents see them the next year goes better.
Hang in there
Thanx so much for the encouragement! I'm excited to be able to offer this to our parents! We plan on offering a "scholarship" for families who would love to have this but may not be able to afford it. I'll ask about the PTO badges when I call to schedule a date for them to come to our school. Should this be offered during school hours or on a Saturday?
Hey there--we do it every year. But not as a push or a fundraiser or any of those things...we do it as a service for our parents if they are interested. They will usually give us our PTO badges for free when we host their service. We do get a pretty good turn out...and some folks ask for a return visit when they're really interested. So FYI--it's a good service to offer....or one like them...I suspect they're all pretty much the same. Oh they did do a free discount card for us which we sold for 10 bucks a piece. Didn't go over terribly well cause they were very late delivering them. So they made a 500 donation and we raised 300 dollars. It was a good card though, good for a year...we just had to find the groups/restaurants etc willing to participate.
Have any of you hosted ident-a-kid at your school?
Was it well received by the parents? Or do you think that is something that should be done off school campus? I would love your input! I just was voted in as pto president for 2005-2006 ... I certainly have a burden for our kid's safety.
