You should try contacting your town/city council and see if they can help you out in any way. When we collected stuff for hurricane relief our town took care of getting it transported for us through a local armory.

Other then that find out what it would cost you to send it and ask local businesses and organizations to donate to the cause of transporting this stuff.

Our PTO organized relief efforts for a school in Mississippi affected by the hurricanes. While we are located in Pennsylvania, since just before Christmas, we have shipped over 14,000lbs of clothing, bedding, toys, books, and school supplies down to our new "sister" school in southern Mississippi.

The past shipments were made because of generous donations by the freight companies who took our boxes down either for free or at an extremely reduced rate.

Right now I have 217 boxes of clothing and additional bedding sitting in my school's hallway with no means of getting it south. The trucking companies we've dealt with in the past say they can't help us again.

Does anyone reading these message boards have any good connections with a freight company that might be able to pull a few strings and help us out? We would be shipping from Butler, PA to Saucier, MS. Its 217 boxes - I would estimate it to be about 3,000lbs but that is just a guess based on our prior shipments.

If we can't find a "donor" truck, we will have to buy one. That runs about $4,000. My PTO cannot afford this - its not in the budget and we simply don't have the funding. Does anyone have any ideas?
